Bob Bratina announced this morning that he's running for mayor. Not only does that add an interesting personality to the mix, but it frees up a council seat in Ward 2. I can't wait to dig my teeth into the election - it's going to be a crazy ride.
My question for you, readers, is how you think Bratina's candidacy will influence the mayoral race. I've had some very preliminary discussions about it in the newsroom and several possibilities have been floated. Some say votes will split between Eisenberger and Bratina and Larry Di Ianni will come up the middle. Others say Bratina and Di Ianni will split the vote and Mayor Fred will come out on top.
Then, of course, there's the possibility that Bratina will become Hamilton's Rob Ford and take the race.
What do you think?
Well, now it is interesting.
As near as I can tell, we have a choice between a candidate that hides information from the rest of council, a candidate that hides finances from the campaign review board and a candidate that hides his own convictions as he sways in the wind.
Welcome to Hamilton politics and good luck.

It amazes me that in a city of 500,000+ this group is the best we can do.

I think the election will be a tough one this time around,I think myself that Mayor fred will come out on top even though the stadium decision kind of went on.

I do not know for sure who I will support for mayor but I do know it wont be Bratina. I base this on his conduct during city council meetings, Flip flops on most issues and non representation as my councillor. I believe he has anger management issues and will be a detriment to council in any capacity.

A choice between Fred "Bozo the Mayor" Eisenberger, Larry "The ( I can't) Count" Di Ianni, and Bob "the Disc Jerkey" Bratina?
Monty, I will take Door #4, and if I cannot, then please pass me a cup of hemlock.
This is the best Hamilton can muster for the Mayor's office?
My God...then everyone should seriously consider voting for Michael Baldasaro.
He certainly cannot do any worse than Hamilton's own "Three Stooges," or the "Keystone Council."
To quote Richard III, "for the want of a nail, a shoe was lost..."
We have our own problems in Haldimand, but we are extremely lucky, considering what Hamilton has to suffer with, and choose from.

There are assumptions about Michael Baldasaro because of his sacrament, but the assumptions don't hold up when you meet him. He's actually very smart, and his intelligence is tempered with compassion. He is not secretive or smarmy or arrogant. (That he won Ti-Cats tickets from Di Ianni shows he's quick on the mark.)
I'm told that by voting for him, I'm throwing my vote away. But I think if you vote for one of the 'big three', you're throwing your vote away. The proof is in the pudding; judge their past performances - Eisenberger, Di Ianni, and Bratina do not make things better for working Hamiltonians. Put any of them in, and we will have continuing secrecy, flip-flopping, non-representation, egotism, and increased property taxes.

Guess he is getting into gear now. Today we received for the first time since he has been our councilor the "Downtown Hamilton Ward 2 News." for Aug 2010. every person in our building received one and are of the same mind.
Elections are round the corner.

So what about Glenn Hamilton?
This is a guy who has lived in our city all of his life. Thus, he has been a passenger on the political roller coaster ride of successes and challenges we have faced in the past 50 years.
I've known Glenn since our street hockey games in the 60's and 70's around the Gage and Cumberland area of Hamilton. Always a fearless competitor, he was never afraid to jump into the fray and help out a teammate.
To this day he remains a straight shooter and caring friend to those who are fortunate enought to know him.
What he is NOT, is a member of the stale cadre of head nodders currently at City Hall.
Give this guy a look Hamilton! Put him in City Hall and let a true Hamiltonian guide our home town back to it's proud heritage as "The Amitious City".
