Purple -- it's the colour of wealth, power, and now, the walls our new mayor's office.
According to Peggy Chapman, the mayor's right hand, Bob Bratina has painted his office in various shades of dark purple. It's a big change from the pale yellow walls of Fred Eisenberger's office and the neutral walls of nearly every other surface at City Hall.
Peggy says Bratina has also removed the privacy film on his windows to symbolize open and transparent government.
“There’s a whole process and theology behind what he’s doing,” Chapman said.
I haven't yet seen , but I'm hoping to get a picture and post it to Hall Marks sometime soon. Stay tuned.
PS - We're still in the middle of shaping a plan for Hall Marks 2.0. I'm hoping to introduce a few new elements of the blog over the next several weeks. Thanks for everyone who has made suggestions.
Ummm, "theology"? Perhaps Ms. Chapman could use a dictionary for Christmas, as I certainly hope she is not trying to imply that Bob The Brat is some sort of deity?

No I'm sure Ms Chapman mis-spoke. She meant 'mythology' as in everything Bob says is a myth!!!!

Leave it to Bingo Bob and his Cow-girl to focus on the really big issues this City should deal with. Am I mistaken, or did the Mayor and Councillors not just move back in to a freshly painted, spruced up City Hall in May of this year? And as for "privacy film", I think Ms Chapman should check with the operations staff. Isn't that material more about safety and security (i.e.: preventing glass from shattering)? GIVE ME A BREAK!!! What'll it be next, Theology 101 classes in the Mayor's office? Puhleeeeeeze! Can we get down to some serious business.

The colour purple has always been linked to royalty. So does that mean the mayor and his "chief" (of what?) believe they're above the rest of us? Purple also symbolizes all things grand, glorious, majestic and opulent. (Do we really need opulance with our poverty rate here? ie: Why the new paint and the wasteful act of ripping down security film?) Purple is also a symbol of discretion. During Lent (a time of discretion in the Catholic Church), purple is the colour worn by priests and suggests an undertone of vigilant control. Good luck with the control piece at City Hall. Council is in control - not the mayor and heaven forbid, not a newbie staffer! Respectfully, please get to the real work and stop redecorating your offices. There are some serious issues in Hamilton and the Mayor and his lone staffer should be dealing with them. Oh wait, I guess they think the City Mgr should be doing that. (He is!)

I guess we will never hear about issues from the Mayor and just get feeds from what his press secretary wants us to hear.

Hmmm... Rob Ford has abolished the Toronto vehicle registration tax, slashed councillors' office budgets and refered the question of declaring the TTC an essential service to the province. In contrast, Bob Bratina has repainted his office walls purple and is going to play the clarinet at the Hamilton Philharmonic. I hate ask questions when I already know the answer, but does Bob Bratina even have a legislative agenda, and if so, when is he going to get serious and start working on it? Just asking. Like I said, I know the answer.

Maybe his press secretary will respond.
