I just finished writing my story for the spec but I have two thoughts.
1. The Crosby goal will go into the Hendreson pantheon. It was much more exciting than if the Canadians had held on in regulation or scored an empty netter. History in the modern age is about drama, about the moment, about stars and super stars. This had all that and more.
2. I believve the hockey gold will be the determining factor as to how this Olympics will be remembered. Though these Games have largely recovered from a horrendous start, this is a Hockey Nation. Had we lost -especially in OT after being 24 seconds from gold - it would have left a lasting stain on these games. Now, they'll be remembered as they should be: as a remarkable showcase for Canadian athletes and our country's pride and culture.
