We have some new workshops being offered this month. Hope you'll find them useful. If you're interested in signing up for any March workshop, please e-mail Agnes Bongers. Please remember managers are committed to clearing time from your schedule so that you can attend training sessions. We're told all you have to do is ask.
2006 TRAINING CALENDAR
MARCH
Thurs. March 9: Mediaviewer 1-2 p.m. 3-4 p.m. with Peter Haentjens
This new software was cited as a top source of discontent by staff in the latest Learning Newsroom module. Content Editors, copy editors, designers, production staff and any one who occasionally fills in for those positions are encouraged to attend one of these sessions to learn tips on how to better navigate through the process. Please e-mail Peter Haentjens any questions you think should be addressed in the session.
Mon. March 20: Breaking down business jargon. 1-2:30 p.m.
Paul Bates, Dean of Business at DeGroote, McMaster's School of Business, will lead a session, primarily for business writers but everyone is welcome, on what to look for in company reports and offer tips on how to best interpret and explain business news.
Tues. March 21, 1-3 p.m: Camera web training
Rebecca will lead a small group through a hands-on training session on in-front-of-camera techniques. Where do you look? Where do you put your hands? How do you cut someone off nicely? Participants will come to the session with a short, prepared piece, be filmed on camera, then run through a kind critique with the group.
Tues. March 28, 1-3 p.m: Producing a video for the web
Following his example with The Beasely Poverty Project, Steve will lead a small group through the process of creating, narrating and editing a small video for the web. Steve knows the ins and outs of this after training himself through trial and error. (If Steve can do it, so can you.)
